A two day consultation on Women and Resource Rights Concludes in Lucknow

Varied partners of Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) from Northern region together discussed the scope and strategies towards realization on Women and Resource rights in their work ahead in a two day consultation organized by IGSSS, a CWLR partner on 9th and 10th September at Hotel Awadh International, Lucknow. The consultation sought after the participation of IGSSS partners from six states of north India most of who were introduced to the issue for the first time.
The first day of the consultation focused understanding the gender dimension and historical perspectives on the issue of women and resource rights, understanding it in different situations (Muslim, tribal, rural) and looking at how Women Resource Rights Agenda can be adopted at local level by the partners towards realizing the larger goal of strengthening women’s resource base in their region.
The second day started with a session on legal resource on women and land where different laws and policies specially in the context of Uttar Pradesh was discussed including land reforms, land entitlement, HAS, UP Zamindari abolition Act etc. In the second half the participants largely divided themselves among different groups to think of interventions at the organizational level and also at the community level. Some specific recommendations emerged of the group discussion which would later be shared with the partners for approval. IGSSS intends to hold similar consultations in other four regions of India and take the recommendation to a national convention by March for final collation at all India level.
